Sidewalk Skincare

Survival Balm

I’ve never admitted it, but I’m obsessed with everything about skin.  Well, maybe I have admitted it.  It’s what has gotten me to where I am now, and what led to this blog.  I guess I’d be better off saying I generally focus on the skin on the face or hands.  Well, let’s change it up a bit.  I came across a product that I am VERY curious about.  It’s called Shoe Survival Balm by a company called Sidewalk Skincare.  Maybe I’m late, because they have been featured in everything – from Self to The Examiner to Daily Candy and even Readers Digest.

The concept behind the brand is to prevent chaffing and blistering or skin irritations in general, that result from everyday shoe wear.  Although marketed for everyday use, the product seems to be heavily supported by brides and runners.  Its design is reminiscent of your average deodorant stick, however sleek enough to slip into your purse with no hesitation to pull it out at the first sign of rubbing or irritation.

Tattoos move to the lips May 16, 2011

Violent Lips temporary tattoo

It seems we are in the era of a tattoo craze.  I have seen more tattoos in the last two years than I care to count.  To prove my point, the makeup industry is now playing into the craze.  Are You Ready For Tattoo-able Lip Color? Here it comes–the wave of beauty products attempting to capitalize on the success of Sally Hansen’s Nail Effects and Minx. Violent Lips beauty company is launching with temporary tattoos for your kisser that come in three-packs for $14.95 with an array of designs, like flowers, fishnet, and animal prints…. What, haven’t you always wanted cheetah lips?

Violent Lips’ temporary tattoos come in three-packs for $14.95 and are applied in a four-step process. They last four to eight hours — to endure a raging “night out,” and can be removed with mineral or baby oil.  Reportedly next: eye color.

Oddly enough, I cannot wait until these are on shelves.  I would like to try the glitter variety.

My Getaway Essentials May 11, 2011

Memorial Day is approaching, and with it, the unofficial start of the wunderlust season.  However, my travel season has already begun.  After several painful packing nights (for New York and then California and now Boston), I realize I always save the simplest for last, which surprisingly is my toiletries.  No matter how long my stay, I pack the same essentials.  So, whether your getaway plans include sunning at the beach, roughing it in the mountains, couple-roaming the delights of Paris, or exploring the lesser-known charms of the Far East, you will need to pack your essentials.

I wanted to share my skin care essentials that are a must on my trips this summer:

All of the following are my basics to make sure my skin is in top shape when leaving town and returning home.  I rarely carry any treatment items because these simple items keep my skin balanced.  (Again, keep in mind my skin is combination seasonal meaning I’m really dry in the winter and can get somewhat oily in the summer, however I still have dry areas).

Some of these items may be more familiar than others.  I cannot live with out these products, and as I’ve said before, it takes a lot to impress me.  These products have shown results on me in tremendous ways and now I invite you to try them and share your results with me.

I usually don’t get excited about drugs May 10, 2011

I usually don’t get excited about drugstore brands, but I’m pretty excited about Salma Hayek’s new cosmetic line to be carried by CVS stores, As reported by drugstore news she was inspired by her grandmother who was a cosmetologist. But what I’m most excited about is that she’s incorporating Native American and Mayan ingredients. Sounds like serious business here! http://ow.ly/4R7w1
